Lake Monroe Day - September 15, 2024
Join us for Lake Monroe Day on Sunday, September 15th with events taking place all week September 8-15. This will be our third year celebrating Lake Monroe Day. Bloomington, Monroe County, Brown County, and Jackson County have all been asked to sign a proclamation emphasizing the importance of Lake Monroe as our sole drinking water source, a key economic driver for our region, and a valuable asset for the quality of life in our area. Friends of Lake Monroe is working hard to protect this important resource and we take time every fall to celebrate. Check out our great list of fun events:

These events are part of a larger celebration. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the creation of Lake Monroe (aka Monroe Lake aka Monroe Reservoir) by constructing a dam across Salt Creek. On October 24, 1964, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers held its opening dedication ceremony. To celebrate, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources is partnering with many local organizations to host events throughout the summer and fall! These include beach parties, boat tours, painting workshops, shoreline cleanups, and so much more. For a detailed list, please visit the DNR’s Monroe Lake 60th Anniversary webpage. You can also enjoy special posts (and photos!) from DNR on the history of Monroe Lake every Monday from August 5 through October 21 at facebook.com/monroelake.
