Lake Monroe 60th Anniversary

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the creation of Lake Monroe (a.k.a. Monroe Lake a.k.a. Monroe Reservoir) by constructing a dam across Salt Creek. On October 24, 1964, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers held its opening dedication ceremony. To celebrate, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources is partnering with many local organizations to host events throughout the summer and fall! These include beach parties, boat tours, painting workshops, shoreline cleanups, and so much more. For a detailed list, please visit the DNR’s Monroe Lake 60th Anniversary webpage. Here is a list of special events being hosted by the Friends of Lake Monroe in September and October:

  • Sunday, October 6 at 2:00 p.m. - Water Treatment Plant Tour hosted by Friends of Lake Monroe and City of Bloomington Utilities

  • Sunday, October 13 at 2:00 p.m. - Special 60th Anniversary Cleanup hosted by Friends of Lake Monroe and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources

  • Thursday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m. - Pine Grove Kayak Trip hosted by Friends of Lake Monroe and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources
