How often have you been birding, nature sauntering, hiking, kayaking, or gardening and have been filled with wonder, curiosity, and reflection pertaining to your encounters and discoveries outdoors? How often have you had unique and meaningful interactions with wildlife and wanted to preserve those experiences?
Nature Journaling 101 is an introduction to creating a journal of your observations, experiences, reflections, and events that you wish to document. This workshop is not about “creating pretty pictures”. It is about connecting to nature through your senses, attention, curiosity, and wonder.
If you can use a pen/pencil, you can nature journal. You will learn what tools are recommended, how there is no right or wrong way of journaling, how to create a page in a journal, how to ask questions, how to observe flora and fauna, and how your journal is priceless.
Please bring a pen, mechanical pencil, a journal or sketchbook, and a shoulder bag to carry your journal & writing tools. Binoculars, magnifiers, small rulers, and your phone camera are also helpful to have but not required. Lastly, bring your curiosity, willingness to learn, and an open mind! Anyone can nature journal and that includes YOU!
It is recommended that you read the article “Nature Journaling: A Deeper Connection to Nature” by Joni James in The Cardinal, a newsletter magazine of the Indiana Audubon Society. https://indianaaudubon.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Cardinal-Feb-2022-web.pdf
