Community Forum on Forest Management
On April 22, Friends of Lake Monroe hosted a Community Forum on Forest Management at the Monroe County Public Library in downtown Bloomington. There has been considerable controversy over the past few years regarding various proposals for management of Hoosier National Forest. In addition to proposed vegetation management projects designed to improve forest health there are recent directives and bills aimed at expanding wilderness, designating a recreational area and preserving mature and old growth forest. This forum provided information related to these and other management directions and provided the public with the opportunity to question experts involved in these decisions.
Featured speakers:
Michael Chaveas, Hoosier National Forest supervisor
Jeff Stant, Indiana Forest Alliance executive director
Sherry Mitchell-Bruker, Friends of Lake Monroe president.
