April 22 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

Earth Day 2021

Hoosier National Forest, Deam Wilderness Event

The Friends of Lake Monroe is looking for volunteers to assist Hoosier National Forest staff in various tasks to rehabilitate the Lake Monroe shoreline in the Deam Wilderness Area, including: rehabilitating campsites and disassembling illegal sites; picking up litter around the shoreline; cutting back invasive multi-flora rose along the end of peninsula trail turnpike; and removing brush from the trail corridor along storm damaged areas. Volunteers will be ferried to the work area by pontoon boat leaving from the Two Herons Marina at the Cutright State Recreation Area on the south end of the Lake Monroe causeway. Please bring a light lunch and drinking water, and wear rugged work clothes, including gloves, appropriate for the task and weather. You may also register using the form below, or by contacting FLM’s volunteer coordinator at volunteer@friendsoflakemonroe.org.
